Volkswagen initiates work on a new electric sedan model
The German automotive giant Volkswagen, raising the bar in electric car production each day, starts its new sedan projects.
Volkswagen is advancing its commitment to electric mobility by initiating the production of the new ID.7 sedan at their Emden facility in Germany. This development emerges at a pivotal moment, especially after facing demand-related issues with the ID.4 model earlier in June. The ID.7's debut is seen as a significant step for the German car manufacturer. With the production process already underway, Volkswagen is placing high hopes on the ID.7 to rejuvenate demand alongside the ID.4. The company has started taking orders in Germany, hinting at probable deliveries commencing this autumn.
The ID.7 is constructed on the MEB platform, boasting features like a 77-kilowatt-hour battery, which is projected to provide a driving range of 382 miles according to the European WLTP test cycle. A more potent 86 kWh battery variant is also anticipated, potentially pushing the driving range to 435 miles.

This underscores Volkswagen's dedication to technological efficiency and innovation. Another highlight is the introduction of the APP550 electric motor in the ID.7, delivering a powerful 210 kW, signifying an upgrade from the earlier 150 kW motor. The potential inclusion of all-wheel-drive models further illustrates the dynamic advancements in Volkswagen's electric vehicles.
Nevertheless, the company's forthcoming trajectory hinges on the demand for both the ID.4 and the newly introduced ID.7. Past production challenges have instilled a sense of caution, leading to the delay of the third shift to the fall season. The ID.7 is also scheduled for a North American launch in 2024. Additionally, there are plans for localized production for the Chinese market through collaborative ventures, underlining Volkswagen's global aspirations.
