Volkswagen has announced that they increased the working hours because of Covid-19. Here all the details.
German automotive giant Volkswagen (VW) demanded overtime to compensate for the loss at its factory in China, where it stopped production due to increasing Covid cases. The factory, which VW operates in partnership with the Chinese automaker FAW Group, normally worked 8 hours a day.
Volkswagen increased working hours because of "Covid"
The German company decided to stop production at the factory between November 21 and December 5 due to the increasing Covid cases among workers. It is not known how much VW lost in this period. The firm did not respond to a request for comment from Telegraph, one of the UK's leading newspapers. In the same period, the German company suspended production due to the inability to supply parts at both factories in Changchun, the capital of Jilin province.
The company's car sales in China fell 14 percent last year to 3.3 million. On the other hand, in China, where protests took place due to strict pandemic rules, automobile sales fell by 9.5 percent in November. Arno Antlitz, VW's chief financial officer, said that next year will be much more difficult due to rising inflation and falling demand.
