The famed electric vehicle manufacturer now ventures into the smartphone market
Even though the smartphone industry remains under the dominance of a few major brands, this doesn't deter giants from other sectors from turning to smartphones.
China's prominent EV maker is venturing into the smartphone realm with its flagship smartphone, dubbed the Nio Phone. A flurry of leaks surrounding the device has surfaced, including its recent appearance on AnTuTu benchmarks. Notably, a prominent Weibo user unveiled an internal conversation within the company. In this chat, CEO William Li is seen discussing the Android smartphone with the staff.
The Nio Phone is set to offer impressive performance with an emphasis on efficient power management and longer standby times, ensuring it doesn't suffer from heating issues. An intriguing aspect of the phone is its design, which appears to draw inspiration from Nio's car designs, particularly evident in its remarkable rear design.

The phone's integration with Nio cars is expected to be seamless, especially for the second-generation models. Nonetheless, there might be a few limitations in features for the first-generation cars, attributed to their hardware constraints. The device will run on Android, boasting a suite of distinctive applications. A unique feature to look forward to is its built-in iPhone backup capability.
As for its technical specifications, recent appearances on benchmarks hint at a 120Hz display and a high-performing Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC clocked at 3.36Ghz. Other reported specs include 12GB LPDDR5x RAM, 1TB UFS 4.0 storage, and Android 13 as its operating system. Connectivity features like 5G support and UWB (Ultrawide Band) are also anticipated, the latter of which suggests the phone's capability to serve as a digital key for Nio cars. In terms of performance metrics, the device garnered a cumulative score of 1360974 on the AnTuTu benchmark, with individual scores of 355,091, 434,891, 304,072, and 266,920 for CPU, GPU, memory, and UX tests, respectively.
