In a series of ongoing price reductions that began late last year, Tesla has once again lowered the prices of its Model 3 and Model Y inventory units. This move provides potential buyers with an opportunity to save money and expedite the delivery process, albeit with the condition of choosing from the existing inventory. By offering discounted prices on these inventory models, Tesla aims to attract customers seeking a more affordable and immediate ownership experience, albeit with a limited selection of available vehicles.

While the exact reasons behind Tesla's decision to reduce prices on its inventory remain uncertain, it aligns with the company's relentless efforts to maximize electric vehicle (EV) sales and deliveries. With Tesla now capable of producing more units than it can currently sell, adjusting prices helps manage inventory levels. This strategy serves multiple purposes, as it not only creates a positive perception of robust demand but also potentially sets the stage for the forthcoming launch and delivery of the refreshed Model 3, reportedly expected in the second half of 2023.

Last month, Tesla initiated a reduction in prices for its Model 3 inventory, initially lowering them by approximately $1,200 per unit. Subsequently, the company further doubled these discounts to slightly surpass $2,400. In certain rare instances, inventory Model 3s have been made available with price cuts exceeding $3,000. However, it is important to note that the extent of these price reductions varies across different markets.

When visiting Tesla's website and exploring its inventory, the discounted prices differ based on the specific zip code entered during the search. Similarly, Model Y inventory units are also offered at discounted rates, although the price reductions for this model are generally not as substantial as those seen for the Model 3.

Tesla announces full eligibility of $7,500 EV tax credit

Although Tesla's inventory levels have increased compared to the past, the available selection of cars is still relatively limited. If customers have specific preferences regarding color and configuration, they may face challenges in finding exactly what they desire.

Notably, since Tesla's inventory cars are classified as new, both the Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles (EVs) are eligible for the new US federal EV tax credit. The Model 3 Long Range can potentially qualify for a tax credit of up to $3,750, while the Performance version is eligible for the full $7,500 credit. As for the Model Y crossovers, all variants are eligible for the complete tax credit amount.
