Mercedes introduces its new semi-electric truck model
While investments in electric vehicles continue to increase, a new vehicle presentation came from Mercedes, one of the strongest names in the industry.
Navigating through the evolving landscape of electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz has revealed its new contender in the realm of electric trucks: the eActros 600. Positioned to rival the likes of the Tesla Semi, the eActros 600 long-haul electric truck doesn't just bring zero-emission driving to the forefront; it’s set to deliver a significant shake to the trucking industry with its impressive specifications and advanced features.
Equipped with three battery packs, the eActros 600 brings a robust combined capacity of 621 kWh to the table, ensuring that it's not only sustainable but also incredibly efficient. The truck boasts a substantial range of 500km on a single charge, positioning itself as a solid competitor for the long-distance haulage sector. Mercedes has carefully calibrated its design, merging aesthetic appeal with functional aerodynamics. Curves gracefully complement underbody paneling and A-pillar air deflectors, and the meticulously designed cab is expansive, providing optimal comfort for long-haul journeys.

Delving deeper into its capabilities, the eActros 600 is not just about reaching destinations but doing so with unparalleled efficiency and sustainability. The truck aligns itself superbly with the long-distance requirements of most Mercedes customers. Notably, the vehicle's requirement for charging infrastructure only at the journey’s endpoints signifies a thoughtful strategy from the manufacturer. Additionally, Mercedes underscores the truck’s aptitude for extensive travel, stating that the eActros can comfortably exceed 1,000km a day, given its ability to recharge during break periods.
Reflecting on its technical prowess, the eActros 600 can confidently haul up to 22 tons of carriage, further amplified by its status as the electric variant of its Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) model. Durability parallels its ICE counterpart, capable of clocking total mileages up to 1.2 million km. Additionally, Mercedes guarantees up to 80% battery health retention after a decade of use and offers a charging capacity of 400 kW. Mechanical specifications reveal an 800V electric axle, complemented by two electric motors, and peak output stands at a notable 805hp. Although it arrives with a 400kW charging capacity, a future upgrade to megawatt charging is also promised by Mercedes.
In terms of financial aspects, the eActros 600 will demand an investment approximately 2.5 times more than its diesel counterpart. However, its long-term profitability potential and more sustainable operation present a compelling case for businesses. As the truck rolls out, it is poised to be a noteworthy adversary to the Tesla Semi, although comprehensive comparisons will only become apparent following the release of both models.
