Huawei joins forces with Chery, aiming to outpace Tesla!
With Huawei, a leader in smart technologies, and Chery, a notable name in the automobile world, coming together for a new electric vehicle.
The electric vehicle (EV) market is poised for a significant shakeup, with Chery Automobile and Huawei Technologies announcing the launch of their collaborative brand, Luxeed. Slated for its debut in November, the brand's premier model, the S7, is not just aiming to compete in the Chinese market, but also aspires to surpass the widely acclaimed Tesla Model S.
Although Huawei has faced challenges penetrating the U.S. market, the company sees opportunity closer to home. Richard Yu Chengdong of Huawei remains optimistic about the potential of the S7, even though specific details about the vehicle remain under wraps. Given China’s rapidly growing middle class with an inclination towards advanced digital features such as voice controls and autonomous driving, the S7 positions itself as a prime choice for tech aficionados.

What stands out about Luxeed is its unique synthesis of Chery's automotive excellence and Huawei's technological brilliance. Chery, having reported a 17% surge in EV deliveries the previous year, provides robust manufacturing capabilities. On the other hand, Huawei, despite facing U.S. sanctions, has ventured into the EV space, introducing its groundbreaking Huawei HI system that offers advanced computing and autonomous driving functionalities.
Gao Shen, an independent analyst, posits that the Luxeed brand transcends the individual contributions of its parent companies. It embodies both Chery's production prowess and Huawei's innovative technological solutions. With predictions indicating the Chinese EV market's potential expansion by a staggering 55% this year, Luxeed's S7 undoubtedly faces a rigorous test ahead.
It's undeniable that the local EV domain is saturated, with brands such as Nio, Li Auto, and Xpeng vying for dominance against Tesla's premium offerings. Yet, the S7 could potentially alter this landscape. By synergizing the expertise of both its parent companies, it promises a product that is not just technologically advanced but also resonates with local preferences. The future will reveal if this proposition resonates with the consumers.
