Honda's electric revolution with the EM1 E motorcycle
Honda is making a significant stride into the e-mobility sector with the launch of its first production electric motorcycle, the EM1 E.
Honda is making a notable entrance into the e-mobility market with the introduction of its first-ever production electric motorcycle, the EM1 E. This move comes one year after the famed Japanese automaker announced ambitious plans to roll out ten distinct electric two-wheeler models by 2025.
The EM1 E marks Honda's pioneering foray into the realm of electric mopeds. It boasts a 1.7kW motor that promises a maximum torque of 90Nm and a top speed of 45km/h, positioning it as a worthy contender against the Yamaha Neo e-scooter launched in 2022.
Honda's electric revolution with the EM1 E motorcycle
The innovative EM1 E is essentially an electric adaptation of Honda's 50cc internal combustion engine bikes. It is powered by Honda's proprietary removable Lithium Ion battery, known as the Honda Mobile Power Pack e. In the econ base mode, the bike is said to provide a riding range of 48km. However, during the WMTC Class 1 testing, a range of 30km was recorded. With regard to charging speed, the e-scooter can charge from 0 to 50% in 2 hours and achieve full charge in 6 hours.
Honda intends to offer the EM1 E through a lease purchase scheme, with three color variants - white, silver, and black. The bike features front disc and rear drum brakes for optimum safety. Its suspension system comprises telescopic forks and twin shocks at the rear, ensuring a smooth ride.
While the official release date of this innovative e-bike is yet to be announced, it is anticipated to hit the market later this year. Specific pricing information for the new Honda e-bike remains undisclosed at this time, but it's expected to come with a competitive price tag that aligns with its affordable positioning.
