Bentley's new electric car's launch date and features are now clear
The specifications and finalized release date of the new electric car model from Bentley, one of the world's most luxurious car brands, are now known.
Bentley, a prestigious British brand renowned for luxury cars, is preparing to make a significant transition into the electric vehicle (EV) domain with its first entirely electric vehicle. As per a piece in the British car magazine “AutoCar,” Bentley’s CEO, Adrian Hallmark, has disclosed that the imminent electric vehicle will incorporate state-of-the-art autonomous driving technology.
The electric vehicle designed by Bentley will employ the SuperVision system provided by Mobileye, which includes an impressive suite of 11 cameras. Intriguingly, this same system is set to feature in Porsche's forthcoming Macan EV. Initially, the autonomous driving ability of Bentley's EV will be partial, mainly focusing on highways. Yet, Bentley has outlined a long-term strategy to accomplish full self-driving capabilities via over-the-air (OTA) software updates in due course.
Slated for an official launch in 2025, the debut electric car from Bentley is rumored to showcase a sports coupe design. According to Hallmark, the upcoming electric vehicle will feature a power output reaching up to 1,400 horsepower, boasting acceleration from 0 to 60 miles per hour in an astonishing 1.5 seconds. Even though these performance statistics seem mind-boggling, Hallmark has reassured potential buyers by promising a less intimidating, "slower" version of the car.
It is fascinating to observe Bentley's ambitious roadmap for the electric era, intending to roll out a new electric vehicle annually from 2025 until 2030. To sustain this grand plan, the company has allocated a colossal investment of $3 billion to overhaul its Crewe factory, thereby equipping it to tackle the intensifying EV competition.
In parallel, Rolls-Royce, another distinguished British luxury car manufacturer, is readying to introduce its first-ever electric car, the Specter, later this year. The Specter, a plush coupe, is built on the same platform as Rolls-Royce's renowned Phantom and Cullinan models.
As both Bentley and Rolls-Royce embark on their journey towards electric mobility, a significant transformation in R&D within the luxury automotive industry seems inevitable. This shift signifies a significant transition in the EV landscape, offering companies like Chrysler and Acura a crucial indication.
